“Those things that we make invaded us, until the day came that we ourselves became their slaves. It is us the human beings who paid so much effort to evolve the machine until it brutally took control. We are sleep walking powerlessly, while it led the way, taking away our freedom, stealing the pleasures of life and beauty, setting us apart from those we love, breaking the bonds of connection and compassion between us. It is that miserable machine, that black rectangle which size is no bigger than the palm of a hand, with a touch it turns into those deceptive bright colors, it ravishes us to a virtual world, to steal minutes, hours, and days, to finally steal our lives in vain. When will the day come when we will be freed from this invasion and become the masters again, and the machine will turn back to its original function, to facilitate our lives and nothing more.. the real progression is to stay masters and not to be enslaved by what we make.” Liwan Gallery cordially invites you to attend the opening reception of “The Sleepwalkers” by Asmaa Khoury.
