Dalia Negm (b. 1992) is a contemporary Egyptian artist from Cairo. Painting since 2018, Negm represents the leading cohort of young Egyptian artists with an exciting and contemporary approach to folk tradition. Her practice dawns upon the world she sees, an observance of countryside traditional life increasingly unfamiliar to urban Egyptians.

Negm’s folk-realism captures a world of custom and tradition, such as the vibrant activities around a traditional wedding ceremony. While rich in color and a strong sense of narrative, Negm’s work is subtle in symbolism and sincere in bringing a contemporary feeling to the documentation of Egypt’s folk traditions.
